About the Role

We are recruiting for a Class 1 Night Trunk Driver on behalf of our client based in Castle Vale, Birmingham. This is a temp-to-perm opportunity, offering the chance to secure a permanent role following a successful temporary period.

Working Monday to Friday nights, you will complete trunking routes between the Castle Vale depot, local customer sites and the Birmingham and Coventry hubs. The role involves operating double-deck trailers, carrying out trailer swaps and ensuring loads are transported safely and efficiently.

Successful candidates will receive comprehensive on-the-job training, spending their first two to three shifts with one of the client’s experienced drivers. Training covers loading and unloading procedures, use of pump trucks and handheld scanners, yard procedures and health & safety requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete scheduled night trunking routes between Castle Vale, Birmingham and Coventry hubs.
  • Collect trailers from local customer sites and transport them to the designated hub.
  • Safely operate Class 1 (Category C+E) vehicles with double-deck trailers.
  • Tip and reload trailers at the hub before returning to the depot.
  • Carry out trailer drop and swap operations where required.
  • Operate trailer curtains safely during loading and unloading.
  • Complete daily vehicle checks and report any defects.
  • Follow all company procedures, driver regulations and health & safety standards.
  • Maintain accurate transport documentation and ensure timely deliveries.

Essential Requirements

  • Valid UK Class 1 (Category C+E) HGV Licence.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ HGV driving experience.
  • Experience operating double-deck trailers.
  • Ability to load, unload and operate trailer curtains safely.
  • No more than 6 penalty points on your licence (no major endorsements).
  • Flexible approach to operational requirements.
  • Available to work Monday to Friday nights.
  • Able to start shifts between 16:00 and 18:00.

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Previous experience completing trunking operations.
  • Experience with trailer drop and swap procedures.
  • Experience using handheld scanners and pump trucks.
  • Good understanding of driver hours and transport legislation.
  • Reliable with a strong commitment to safety and customer service.

Full training will be provided, with all new drivers paired with an experienced driver for their first two to three shifts.
